Three books, a sleeve, and garters, 2006
A set of three books containing original photography. The case, sleeves, covers, and paper were constructed, folded, and bound using a sewing technique similar to shoelacing.

Boxed Collection, 2006
The boxed portfolio contains books utilizing a variety of sewing and folding techniques, all coming together under a central theme of family. The Chicago skyline is representative of my sister and me, who attended universities in or near Chicago (sister, SAIC; self, Notre Dame). Contained within some books, but not shown, are photographs taken in the city. The set features both traditional and freestyle binding.

Hardcover book for Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery," 2006
Shirley Jackson's short story, "The Lottery," was illustrated through a collaborative effort and then bound into a hardcover book. The entire process spans cutting the paper, binding the signatures, stretching and pasting the cover, as well as illustrating the cover (here, my handprint).

Envelopes and single-fold books, 2006
This piece comments on peace and conflict within dynasties. One unit represents the US, the other unit is the UK; each envelope contains one single-fold book. Images were transferred onto the envelopes and books and colored with pencil. Patterns were created with the transfers throughout the project, using symbols and iconic imagery. The envelopes and exteriors of the books display nationalistic pride, but a look inside reveals conflict.
